Effective editing and proofreading online
Once you have established the basic plan for your email marketing campaign, you need to look in detail at what you are sending out. Proofreading and editing the text you include in your mail-outs must be perfect, remember this is a representation of your professionalism. We’ve put together some tips for proofreading online that should help you along the way.
1. Take time out
Editing and proofreading needs time, specifically time out! Walk away from the text you’ve written for a few hours and busy your mind with other tasks, come back to it later on in the day to ensure you are reading the words not what you think it says on the page.
2. Tackle the contents task by task
There will be several points that you are looking to scrutinise while proofreading: word choice, sentence structure, grammar and spelling. Tackle these one at a time and go through the entire text looking for mistakes and improvements for each.
3. Check your facts
If you’re quoting figures or statistics, make sure you go back and double check that they are correct and accurate.
4. Make a hard copy
Proofreading online is difficult, print out your text and read it in paper form as your eye will find it easier without the glare of the screen.
5. Read it out loud
Either yourself or a colleague should try to read the text out loud. This is so you can hear mistakes and feel how easily it flows.
6. Ask people around you
Proofreading services don’t need to be expensive, just pass your text along to a friend. Having a fresh pair eyes on your email will mean any final mistakes will be instantly spotted.
Good luck!
